Acoustic design that makes the space sound as good as it looks
We design spaces where acoustics and aesthetics work together to create a true sound experience.

Why acoustic design
Why acoustic design
When the interiors get designed first while leaving the acoustics to be considered at the end, they can work against each other. Plywood ends up sitting over an absorber. Panels go where there was space left, not where the room needed them. The result looks finished and sounds wrong.
That is why acoustic design needs to happen alongside the architecture and interiors. As acoustic designers, we understand your requirements and work with your architect, interior designer, contractor, or directly with you to design a space where acoustic performance and visual design are resolved together.

How acoustic design service works
1. Listen
Every project starts with understanding how the room will actually be used and how you want it to feel. A home theatre, recording studio, and auditorium are three different problems.
2. Assess
We study the room ratio, room modes, reflections, isolation requirements, and existing construction. This tells us how the room behaves acoustically.
3. Plan
We determine where absorption is needed and at what frequencies, where the room should stay live, and where diffusion helps. We translate the acoustic requirements into actual elements within the room.
4. Visualise
We design the form, pattern, materials, colours, woodwork, fabric finishes, and detailing for the space. This allows the acoustic, architectural, and interior decisions to be reviewed together and resolved before execution.
5. Detail and hand over.
Once the design is approved, we share the panel drawings, sections, isolation details, finishes and a material list. We remain involved to answer design queries and review the implementation.

Acoustic design for every space
Acoustic design for every space

Home theater acoustics
Immersive spaces where every detail, from dialogue to low-end impact, can be experienced as intended.

Recording studio acoustics
Rooms designed to capture performances without unwanted room colour or outside noise.

Mixing and mastering studio acoustics
A room where the balance you hear holds up everywhere else it gets played.

Auditorium acoustics
Spaces designed so speech, music, and performance reach the audience clearly.

Conference room acoustics
Acoustic environments that make speech clearer and conversations easier to follow.

As acoustic design experts, weโve worked on studios, auditoriums, home theaters, and professional listening spaces across India, including Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, and Delhi.
Each project combines acoustic engineering with a considered approach to architecture, materials, and interior design.

About us
About us
Spectral Synthesis was started in 2005 in Chennai by Manoj Kumar, a sound engineer who spent over a decade working inside professional studios before he started designing them.
Since then, we have worked across studios, auditoriums, home theaters, and other spaces for A.R. Rahman, G.V. Prakash, Sushin Shyam and Vijay Antony.
Manoj also runs a leading audio engineering institute named Sountech Media, since 2004. Its alumni include Anirudh Ravichander, Anand Aravindakshan, Sujith Sreedhar, and Ved Shankar, among others.
Spectral Synthesis was founded in 2005 by Manoj Kumar, whose journey with sound began in 1992 as a sound engineer in Delhi, before continuing across the film industries of Mumbai and Chennai

Frequently asked questions
1. Can acoustic treatment be designed to match our interiors?
Yes, that is a fundamental part of our approach. We design the form, materials, finishes, and placement of acoustic elements so they work with the visual language of the room.
2. Do you work with our architect or interior designer?
3. Can you design a room that is already built?
4. How much does acoustic design cost?
5. Do you also manufacture the acoustic panels?

Acoustic design is one of three ways we work with clients. Some clients take our design and execute it with their own architect and contractor. Others ask us to carry out the entire acoustic engineering ourselves.
