Mystic Room, founded by K S Manirathnam and Vishnu M N, former students at Soundtech Media, faced a very different challenge. Their site in Kodambakkam, Chennai sits just 100 feet from a railway track.
Unwanted external sound can interfere with recordings, while structural vibrations can travel through the building and affect the studio environment. The challenge was to create a controlled acoustic environment despite the studio’s difficult external surroundings.

Why Spectral Synthesis
Why Spectral Synthesis
The issue required an approach that considered both sound isolation and vibration control, rather than simply treating the internal acoustics of the room.
With decades of acoustic engineering expertise, we understood where unwanted sound and vibration were coming from, how they were entering the space, and what needed to be addressed to create a controlled environment.

Our approach
01
Understanding the environment:
Before designing anything, we studied the environment. With the track only 75 to 100 feet away, the studio faced two kinds of noise. Train horns are airborne noise, entering through walls, doors and openings. The rumble of wheels on the track is structural vibration, travelling through the ground and the building itself. Mapping both told us where the studio was most exposed and what the isolation had to achieve.
02
Acoustic design:
With the problem defined, we designed the studio around the isolation build-up for every surface, the layout of the 250 sq ft control room and 200 sq ft live room, and the treatment each room would need.
03
Isolation on every surface:
The studio was built as a floating room within a room. The floor, walls and ceiling rest on Getzner blocks, which decouple the studio from the building so train vibration is absorbed before it reaches the room. Isolation only works if it is complete; even a small leak lets noise back in. So every junction was detailed and sealed.
04
Workshop-built treatment:
Absorbers, diffusers and low-frequency absorbers were made as modular panels in our workshop by a specialised team. Each panel was quality-checked before it was installed on site.

Mystic Room is now one of the busier recording studios in the heart of Chennai, working with South India’s top artists. Trains still pass, but they no longer reach the recordings.

Acoustic consultation
We assess your space, understand your goals, and shape ideas where sound and aesthetics work together, so the room performs and still looks the way you imagined.

Acoustic work
Once the acoustic consultation and design is set, our specialized team takes it from plan to reality. Acoustic materials are custom built in our workshop, isolation systems are sourced to German standards, and every installation carries the precision our team has spent two decades perfecting.

Acoustic design
A complete acoustic design of your space, visualized in 3D and tuned to your room's ratio, boundaries, and purpose, with isolation and soundproofing included wherever the space demands it.
